Questions about Fire Door Sets

What is a door set?

A complete door set comes with almost everything already in place to make life easy so all you need to do is install it into the aperture. Standard door sets (sometimes called pre hung doorsets) are supplied with latch, strike-plate, door leaf, hinges and door linings in place. The door handles and door stop supplied loose.

How does a fire rated door set compare with a standard door set?

A fire door set is exactly the same as a standard door set with just a few differences:

  • they have a different hinge system
  • they have an intumescent strip pre-fitted in the lining
  • FD30 fire doors are 44mm thick
  • FD60 fire doors are 54mm thick (standard door sets are 35mm thick)

Fire door sets are ideal for communal buildings, large scale developments or simply if you want to make your house feel safer. Often, homeowners use fire door sets for garages, kitchen areas and home offices to help reduce risk of a fire spreading.

What are intumescent strips?

An intumescent strip (sometimes called an intumescent seal) comes as part of your set and arrives fitted into place. It’s a piece of fire-resistant material that goes in the door frames of a fire door set. The way it works is that the strip expands, preventing fire from spreading should such an event occur.

What are the main benefits of a fire door set?

CLIMADOOR door sets are ideal for apartment developments, commercial buildings and home renovations because they’re designed to achieve quicker fitting times. This helps to create a labour cost saving and reduces time spent on projects. Plus, our range offers exceptional quality at the very best price, so you’ll save money too.

Should I choose a primed fire door set or an unfinished fire door set?

Prefinished fire doors have already been finished to a high standard which means they can be installed with no additional coats required. If you specify a white primed or unfinished fire door set, you’ll need to paint it in your chosen colour once it’s installed. CLIMADOOR sets always come with a primed frame that needs to be base/top-coated on-site.

Does my fire door set comply with building regulations?

CLIMADOOR fire door sets are certified and tested to BS 476: Part 22: 1987 standards. The sourcing of materials and the manufacturing process follows the guidance of ISO 14001 and ISO 19001 systems. For more information on selecting products required to satisfy local authority regulations (including Approved Document Q, L, M and E) talk to our team.

What is the fitting tolerance of a CLIMADOOR fire door set?

Fitting tolerance on a door set relates to the gap between the outside edge of the set's lining and the edge of your structural opening. Both our standard and fire door sets have a fitting tolerance of 10mm in width and height.

Can you deliver my fire door set to my chosen destination?

We can deliver door sets direct to your home or site. Your internal prehung door set will arrive in one package, pre-built and ready to fit. The package can be handled and fit by a couple of people with installation taking around 20 minutes.
