Beautiful Bifold Doors for a Self Build Garden Room

Beautiful Bifold Doors for a Self Build Garden Room

Find out what happened when our customers Charlotte and Rory chose our bifold doors to complete their stunning self build garden room.

Tapping into the garden building trend

Modern garden buildings are experiencing a rush of popularity right now.

In fact, more of us than ever are seeking to extend our living space outdoors and embrace the trend of blurring the lines between our homes and the natural world. Our customers Charlotte and Rory (AKA @homebythedane on Instagram) wanted to make this concept a reality by building a defined space where they could unwind and focus on their goals.

Charlotte says:

“My husband and I are keen weightlifters and a ‘keep fit’ family. We were initially using our garage as a dual purpose woodworking workshop and gym.”

“However, these purposes started to fight against each other. For example, when sanding wood, dust would cover the gym equipment! So my husband decided to create a dedicated space for the gym in our back garden by building a garden room.”

CREATING SPACE

with anthracite grey bifold doors

Natural light and open space were always part of Charlotte and Rory’s design vision. This made CLIMADOOR bifold doors the ideal option to bring their ideas to life.

Charlotte says: “With the bifold doors we have the option to open them up and use the patio as additional outdoor workout space. We can also let in fresh air and light.”

“We chose these doors because we had the option to open them up on the outside. This means no floor space is lost inside the building. When purchasing, we could select whether the bifold doors opened to the left or right. We chose the left as that's closest to the fence, this helped for a smooth, clean finished look.”

“The anthracite grey matches perfectly with the rubber roof set which is also grey and they blend well with our inside paint choice. And because they come with the window panes out of the frame, it made fitting the frame a lot easier for a self build project like this!”

An impressive self build garden room project

Charlotte and Rory should be especially proud of themselves as they undertook all the work for this project themselves alongside Rory’s job. They were kind enough to provide us with additional insights into how the build took shape.

They explain: “The garden building exterior is built to UK regulations and is made with a reinforced concrete base, concrete blocks (new and recycled from a previous project), flat cold roof and stud walls.”

“The interior is floored with recycled rubber mats, the walls are painted in a charcoal grey to add an industrial feel to the gym. The ceiling is lined with a 20 RGB LED strip which can react to music and a ceiling RGB LED light.”

“Rory used a 9 1/2 ft reinforced concrete lintel for the aperture for the doors. He ran both electrics and internet to the building for wifi coverage over the garden. This is a useful tip as we have amenities in case the purpose of the building needs to change in the future!”

“He also made a new seating area in the gravel area by the side of the gym so we can enjoy the afternoon sun.”

Aesthetically pleasing and made to last

With their contemporary-meets-classic look, bifold doors are definitely the superior choice. Especially if you're looking to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your garden space and experience an effortless installation process.

Charlotte describes her grey bifold doors as “aesthetic, smooth and sturdy” which is exactly what our team likes to hear. But there’s more. By folding away completely, they maximise usable space and provide easy access across the garden and back into your home.

However you plan to use your self build garden room, bifold doors are just what’s needed to encourage a well-curated and thoughtfully designed alfresco living experience.

Another happy CLIMADOOR customer

Installing a garden building offers a multitude of benefits for homeowners. It provides additional space for various purposes without the need for costly home extensions.

Garden buildings also serve as a hidden retreat from our busy, modern lifestyles; allowing us to unwind and get back to nature in all seasons.

As Charlotte and Rory demonstrate, by carefully considering factors such as size, style and layout it’s never been easier to create your own personalised outdoor space. One which improves your daily lifestyle and adds a little extra wow-factor to your property.

Charlotte says: “We would absolutely choose CLIMADOOR again. The solid and robust design, smooth operation, 3 sets of keys, ease of fitting and value for money makes CLIMADOOR a great choice if you’re looking to open up your garden space!”

Imagine a productive workspace, a secret ‘staycation’ escape or a sophisticated entertainment area… the concept of a garden building with bifold doors just works. Discover the benefits of this worthwhile investment and start thinking of your dream set up today.
